Bulgaria's Former PM Kiril Petkov Faces Allegations Amid Immunity Request

Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has submitted a request to the 51st National Assembly to lift the parliamentary immunity of MP Kiril Petkov. The request, initiated by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SGP), stems from an ongoing investigation into allegations that Petkov, during his tenure as Prime Minister, exceeded his authority.

The Parliament is expected to examine the lifting of immunity for the leader of the Plefsi Eleftherias party, Zoe Konstantopoulou, following a request from judicial authorities.

Investigations that lead nowhere

The facts are known. Some employees who are also trade unionists intervened to shut down the server at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens last February as an act of solidarity with students who occupied faculties, preventing students from completing online examinations.

MEP Kyrtsos’ immunity lifted

A plenary session of the European Parliament has voted in favor of lifting the immunity of Greek MEP Giorgos Kyrtsos, a member of the Renew Europe political grouping, following a request by the Athens Prosecutor's Office.

The request for the waiver of Kyrtsos' immunity was forwarded by the deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court in a letter dated to June 27, 2023.
