Victoria Tomova became officially Bulgaria's first tennis racket for women.

22-year-old girl from Sofia, who triumphed with the title of the Allianz Cup tournament in Sofia a week ago, took Tzvetana Pironkova's status as the Bulgarian top tennis player in the world rankings. Tomova climbed with nine places in the WTA ranking and today is №149 with a total of 374 points.

Bulgaria to Host ATP 250 Tournament in Sofia in February 2016

The Bulgarian capital Sofia will host its first ever tournament from the ATP World Tour 250 series in 2016.

The tournament will take place in the Arena Armeec hall between February 1 and 7, daily Dnevnik informs.

This was announced by Bulgarian Sports Minister Krasen Kralev and the chairperson of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation Stefan Tsvetkov on Tuesday.

Ana Ivanovic beaten by Serena Williams in Cincinnati final

CINCINNATI - Serbia's Ana Ivanovic failed to win the Cincinnati WTA Premier tournament by losing to world number one Serena Williams of the United States 6-4, 6-1 in late Sunday's final.

With a performance not on par with her previous matches at the tournament, Ivanovic was incapable of containing her in-form opponent.

Romania's Halep loses Wimbledon semifinal to Canada's Bouchard

Romania's female tennis player Simona Halep, WTA's no. 3, has failed to advance to the women's single final of the Wimbledon tournament as she lost on Thursday to Canada's Eugenie Bouchard, seed no. 13, 7-6 (5), 6-2 in one hour and 34 minutes.

For her qualification to the semifinals, she will receive 780 WTA points and 440,000 British pounds. AGERPRES
