Capital district bans signs in foreign languages
The municipal council of Keçiören, a district in the capital Ankara, has unanimously approved a proposal to ban the use of signs written in foreign languages.
A statement released by the municipality on May 3 highlighted the unanimous decision to prohibit the use of foreign language signs and to mandate the use of only Turkish language signboards.

Turgut Altınok named AKP's mayoral candidate for Ankara
Turgut Altınok, the current mayor of Ankara's Keçiören district, has been officially unveiled as the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) metropolitan mayoral candidate for the capital.
The announcement came today as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan revealed the AKP's candidates for 48 cities, including 17 metropolitan areas.

The streets of the capital Ankara's two districts, Yenimahalle and Keçiören, flooded on June 7 following perpetual downpours throughout the day.
The water level reached 1 meter in some parts, causing material damage, especially in houses and offices on the ground floors.

Over 3,000 people applied for adoption of animals kept in poor conditions
More than 3,000 people have applied for the adoption of 77 dogs and six cats that were seized on the grounds that they were kept in poor conditions for commercial purposes in Ankara's Keçiören district.
The animals whose vocal cords were removed to prevent them from making noise and were kept in poor conditions in cages have been sent to Keçiören Municipality Animal Shelter.
250 stores in Ankara's Ottoman Public Bazaar burn down
Some 250 stores in Ankara's Ottoman Public Bazaar have burned to the ground in a fire of unknown origin.
The fire, which rapidly spread across the Ottoman bazaar in the Keçiören district of Turkey's capital, started at 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 20.
