Schoolboy, 14, arrested for threatening teacher after using cell phone
Police in Athens have arrested a 14-year-old schoolboy after he threatened to "break" the face of a teacher who had questioned his use of a cell phone in school.
When an English-language teacher in the Alimos school asked him why he was using a cell phone in school, the second-year middle high school pupil told her "I'm going to break your face."
Parents need to set the example
This time there's an additional incentive to the Education Ministry's regulation for banning the use of cellphones in classrooms and that's the threat of specific penalties for the violation. We'll assume that such punitive measures will have the power to trump the addiction that children and teenagers have to their cellphones.

Pupils uploading at school face expulsion
Students who post videos on social media exposing or mocking their classmates during school hours will be expelled, according to the Education Ministry.
It is the most severe penalty provided for in the penal code of the Education Ministry, which now aims to comply with the ban on mobile phones at Greek schools.

Teens agree less cell use, better grades
Two out of three teenagers think that if they used their mobile phones less they would perform better at school, according to the finds of a survey of 2,291 high school students and graduates by the Poukamisas Educational Center, seeking to assess their relationship with their devices and the impact in and out of school.

Hidden cameras found in hair salon bathroom
A 49-year-old hair salon owner in the northern Athenian suburb of Vrilissia was arrested on Saturday for the unlawful processing of personal data and for violating the illegal substances legislation.
According to the police, the investigation took place after a filed complaint, locating hidden cameras in the hair salon's toilets.

Communications sector revenues up 41 percent
The combined sales revenues of communications companies in Türkiye increased by 40.7 percent in 2022 compared with the previous year to reach 130 billion Turkish Liras, a report by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has shown.
In the final quarter alone sales revenues of those companies stood at 40 billion liras.

‘Panic button’ app to help women facing domestic violence
A digital application for cellphones to support women facing violence at home, called "Panic Button," was introduced in Athens and Thessaloniki on March 23.
The free app is downloaded on a smartphone and activates the service by pressing on a button which sends a text message (sms) to the operational center of the police. The app contains the needed information to locate the user.
