Athens Stock Exchange: New losses, but avoided the worst – Banks are the negative protagonists
The Greek stock market closed in the red, but far from the day’s lows, in a session marked by strong import pressure. The “breach” of 1,430 points proved to be temporary, with sellers gradually “downshifting” and eventually calmness prevailed on the board.
Stocks resume decline, end 0.85% lower
The Athens Stock Exchange resumed its decline Thursday after a two-session rebound from Monday's mini-crash.
In this, it followed global markets, as investors wonder whether the stock sell-off will continue.
But good news from the US, in the form of better-than-expected unemployment figures, helped stem the fall a little before the ATHEX's closing.

China stocks slump 7 pct on opening day of 2016, trading halted for first time
Chinese stock markets tumbled 7 percent in their opening session of 2016 on Jan. 4 as weak factory activity surveys and falls in the yuan added to concerns about the struggling economy, forcing exchanges to suspend trade for the first time.
Early losses quickly snowballed in the afternoon, with trading suspended around 0530 GMT, about 90 minutes before the regular close.

US markets crashed at the opening session on Monday following a renewed rout in global markets due to increasingly nervousness over the economic situation in China.
The Dow Jones industrial average traded about 600 points lower after falling as much as 1,089 points in the open.
