Greek citizens are set to benefit from significant reductions in banking transaction fees as a sweeping legislative package, designed to ease financial burdens, comes into effect in January.

Daily limit to IRIS transactions doubles to 1,000 euros
The daily transaction limit via the IRIS interbank payment system will increase next year to 1,000 euros, from €500 today.
This is donevia a limit of up to €500 per day for the amount that an individual can send money to another natural person (person to person, P2P) and another €500 for the payment of services by a freelancer (person to business, P2B).
All pensions data on one app
The digital mailbox of Gov.gr will present all prospective retirees of the Single Social Security Entity (EFKA) with their retirement decision as of January. At the same time the decision and all monthly statements will be accessible at any time in retirees' electronic wallet (Gov.gr wallet).

Driver behavior points added to gov.gr wallet
As of today, drivers can access information about penalty points recorded in the Driver Behavior Monitoring System (SESOS) through the Gov.gr Wallet.

Road tax notifications for 2025 now online
Road tax notifications for the 2025 road tax have been posted, the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) has said.
Private car and motorcycle owners can find what they owe through AADE's myCar platform as well as the myAADE site and app.
This year the notices include a QR code, allowing faster payment of fees through mobile banking.

Finance Minister demands further drop in bank charges
National Economy and Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis has called on banks to slash their charges once again.
From the stage of the Athens Innovation Forum 2024 on Thursday, he asked them to further expand electronic transactions, realizing, as he said, that "they operate in the context of a society with specific capabilities and that excesses harm them too."

More than 3 million using IRIS direct payment system in Greece
Use of the IRIS direct payment system soared during 2024, according to the Economy and Finance Ministry, with one in every two citizens with an activated web banking account - more than 3 million users - having linked their accounts to the system.
IRIS: New “ultimatum” from the AADE followed by a fine of 1,500 euros
The time is running out for some 800,000 freelancers to register with the IRIS system and accept direct payments to their account from their clients. The deadline is less than a week away, but the latest figures (Friday, August 22) show that only 393,000 professionals and self-employed people had gone through the process, or about 50% of those liable.
