Turkish consumers have flocked to neighboring Georgia to buy phones after the government increased a registering fee for mobile phones that are brought from abroad by 228 percent.
Eskişehir governor appointed as police chief
Erol Ayyıldız, the governor of the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir, has been appointed to the position of General Director of Police.
According to the decision, Ayyıldız was chosen to fill the vacant post following the appointment of former police chief Mehmet Aktaş as deputy interior minister.

Ankara hosts photo exhibit on Pakistan
Pakistan's Embassy in Turkey is hosting a seven-day photo exhibit in the capital Ankara.
The exhibit - "Colors of Pakistan Through the Eyes of Turks," done in coordination with Anadolu Agency and the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality - features 52 sheets of photographers, including Anadolu Agency photojournalists Metin Aktas and Ismet Keten.

Turkish education ministry issues reprimand, imposes forfeiture of one day's pay after deadly dorm fire
Turkey's Education Ministry has issued a reprimand to a district director of national education following complaints by parents whose children were killed in a dormitory fire in the southern district of Aladağ in the Adana province in November 2016 which had killed 12, including 11 teenage girls.

Fight erupts between Syrians, locals in Turkey's Mersin
A fight erupted between locals and Syrians in the southern province of Mersin on April 17, Doğan News Agency has reported.
The fight initially began as a dispute over money between the Syrians, who are working as farm laborers, and locals. But tension rose after crowds grew around the groups.
The fight occurred in the Adanalıoğlu neighborhood of the Akdeniz district.

The biggest trial yet against suspects accused of involvement in the July 2016 coup attempt began in Turkey on Feb. 28 in a courtroom specially built to hold more than 1,500 people.
Turkish pollster detained, assets of 41 businessmen seized
The assets of a total of 41 business leaders were seized on Sept. 7 over their alleged links to Fethullah Gülen, the prime suspect in the July 15 coup attempt, as more people, including a renowned pollster and journalists, were detained.
Investigations have been launched into companies accused of financially supporting the Fetullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).
