Hazardous waste management plan gets green light
The Environment Ministry has approved the new national plan for the management of hazardous waste of industrial, medical and other materials.
Among its most salient provisions is that regarding the creation of a hazardous waste landfill in Tanagra, north of Athens, which has already been licensed but is facing opposition from the local community.

The European Commission is referring Greece to the Court of Justice of the EU over poor waste management on the Greek island of Corfu.
European Court of Justice Finds Bulgaria Guilty in Illegal Landfills Case
The European Court of Justice has ruled that Bulgaria has failed to fulfil its obligations under the EU Landfill Directive and has not taken the necessary steps to open new landfills matching EU requirements, according to Bulgarian media reports.
The ECJ has not made clear in its ruling what penalties Bulgaria will face for the delay, Sofia-based Capital daily reported on Monday.
Bill aims to close down landfills, curb EU fines
Draft legislation aimed at minimizing European Union fines for noncompliance with waste management directives, which was submitted in Parliament Monday, foresees the closure of all illegal landfills in Greece in the next six months with or without the consensus of regional and local authorities.
