Supreme Court overrules decision clearing Marfin Bank of fault over employees’ fire deaths in 2010
More than a decade after three employees died of asphyxiation in a firebomb attack on a downtown Athens branch of Marfin Bank during an anti-austerity riot, a section of the Supreme Court on Thursday overturned a 2020 ruling that had acquitted the bank of responsibility for failing to ensure the safety of its staff.
PM marks anniversary of fatal arson attack
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has marked the 13-year anniversary of the firebomb attack on a branch of Marfin Bank in downtown Athens which led to the death of three people.
"We do not forget the fellow citizens we lost. Punishing the guilty remains a debt of honor for the state, closing the door every day to division, hatred, and political hypocrisy," Mitsotakis said.
