Cape Verde becomes third African country to eliminate malaria
Cape Verde has become the third African nation to be declared malaria free, even as the disease continues to kill hundreds of thousands of people on the continent, the World Health Organization said Friday.
The Atlantic archipelago of about 500,000 inhabitants follows Mauritius in 1973 and Algeria in 2019.
Over 60 dead in migrant boat sinking off Cape Verde: UN agency
More than 60 people are believed to have died after a migrant boat from Senegal was found off West Africa's Cape Verde islands, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Wednesday.
Sixty-three people are thought to have died, while the 38 survivors included four children aged 12 to 16, IOM spokeswoman Safa Msehli told AFP.

Turkish woman crossing Atlantic rescued after losing command of sailing boat
A Turkish woman, who had aimed at being the first Turkish woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean by herself with a sailing boat, was rescued by a nearby ship about 120 nautical miles away from Cape Verde, after the steering wheel of her boat locked.
