Succession to the Saudi Arabian throne

There was a palace coup and the line of the crown prince changed. Saudi King Salman, who is over 80, removed his nephew, Interior Minister Muhammad bin Nayef, and declared his 32-year-old son, Defense Minister Muhammad bin Salman, as the crown prince.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman on April 29 named his powerful interior minister as heir in a major shakeup that also saw the world's longest-serving foreign minister replaced.  

Turkey has declared Jan. 24 a day of national mourning for Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away early on Friday at the age of about 90.

"We declare Saturday, Jan. 24 a day of national mourning for Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz," the Turkish Prime Ministry said in a statement issued Jan. 23.
