They take to the streets: The whole country will be blocked

The Athens subway and tram will only operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while buses will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
There will be no suburban train services, and air traffic controllers and seafarers will participate in the strike, reports Kattimerini. The Athens Journalists' Union (ESIEA) announced that journalists will commence striking earlier today.

Journalists union, media regulator condemn TV station bomb attack

Greece's broadcasting regulator, the National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) and the Athens Journalists' Union (ESHEA) condemned on Monday a bomb attack against the headquarters of Skai TV station and Kathimerini newspaper which they said targets pluralism and democracy.

Journalists call 24-hour strike for Thursday

The Athens Journalists' Union (ESIEA) has called a 24-hour strike for Thursday to protest against wage cuts and layoffs in the media sector, hit by the recession as the country struggles to recover from a debt-crisis.

The action will suspend television news bulletins on Thursday and the printing of daily newspapers on Friday.

Greek press union voices concern at media executive's arrest

Greece's main journalists' union and opposition parties have expressed concern over the arrest of an executive in a small media group for allegedly trying to blackmail the country's defense minister.

The Parapolitika group's manager was arrested in his office Tuesday. The publisher of Parapolitika newspaper also turned himself in to police later.

Golden Dawn members storm journalists' union building

Members of far-right Golden Dawn stormed into the third floor of the Athens Journalists' Union, ESIEA, shouting abusive slogans on Monday, during an event observing Human Rights Day. The event focused on issues regarding ethnic minorities living in Greece as well as recommendations by international organizations.
