‘Accessible Theater’ era begins at AKM
Technology is being transformed into benefit in cooperation with Türk Telekom and the General Directorate of State Theaters Istanbul State Theater. The new social responsibility project, titled "Accessible Theater," aims to increase the participation of visually and hearing-impaired individuals in cultural and artistic events.

Matchbox | Athens | To January 22
The Onassis Cultural Center (Onassis.org) is extending the run of the musical stage adaptation of Yiannis Economides' "Matchbox," to January 22. The critically acclaimed 2002 drama blows open the Pandora's box of the classic Greek family, the "good neighbor" and the closely knit community.

Ghosts | Athens | Ongoing
The Greek National Theater (n-t.gr) presents Henrik Ibsen's controversial "Ghosts," a drama that shatters the edifice of the sacrosanct family, at the main stage of the Ziller Building. Directed by Stamatis Fasoulis, the production features English surtitles on January 19, 21, 25 and 28, and on February 1.

‘The Birds’ | Athens | December 29 & 30

Greek National Theater staging four plays with English surtitles this season
The Greek National Theater's 2019-2020 season comprises more than 20 productions, four of which will be staged with English surtitles every Wednesday through Sunday.
'Carmen' from the Met | Thessaloniki | February 2
The Thessaloniki Concert Hall will screen George Bizet's "Carmen" live in high-definition from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The French romance is directed by Sir Richard Eyre, conducted by Louis Langree and stars Clementine Margaine, Aleksandra Kurzak, Roberto Alagna and Alexander Vinogradov. The performance is in the original French, with Greek surtitles. Doors open at 7.55 p.m.

Pallas Theater now caters to non-Greek speakers

High and Low - A Murderer in Tokyo | Athens | December 25-30 & January 2-8
Balancing between theater and film, Syllas Tzoumerkas and Youla Boudali perform "High and Low - A Murderer in Tokyo" at the Onassis Cultural Center (Stegi) in a series of shows from December 25 to 30. The play is inspired by Ed McBain's novel "King's Ransom" and Akira Kurosawa's movie "High and Low," which was based on the book.
