German Writer Critical of Turkey's Erdogan Arrested in Spain
German-Turkish author Dogan Akhanli was arrested in Spain on Saturday after Turkey issued an Interpol warrant for the writer, a critic of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government, fanning an already fierce row between the NATO allies, reported Reuters.
German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel marries in jail
Deniz Yücel, a German-Turkish journalist for Die Welt newspaper who has been under arrest since February, has married his fiancée in jail, daily Cumhuriyet has reported.
Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) lawmaker Şafak Pavey and Yücel's lawyer, Ferat Çağıl, also participated in the wedding ceremony between the journalist and Dilek Mayatürk in Silivri jail.
Deniz Yücel, reporter from Germany's Die Welt, arrested in Turkey
The Turkish authorities on Feb. 27 arrested a correspondent from German newspaper Die Welt on charges of "propaganda in support of a terrorist organization" and "inciting the public to violence."
Deniz Yücel, a dual citizen of Turkey and Germany, was initially detained by police on Feb. 14.
