Greek police arrested four people believed to be members of a criminal gang selling forged artworks, Byzantine images and small antiquities to buyers in the wider region of Attica and Europe. 

Police was notified by a person who fell victim to the fraud, having bought a fake painting for 50,000 euros.

A Pablo Picasso masterpiece expected to fetch at least $120 million at auction went on show Sept. 25 in Dubai, kicking off a set of rare viewings outside the United States.

Within the scope of the Beyoğlu Cultural Road Festival, organized by the Culture and Tourism Ministry, "Picasso Eterno" will meet with the audience at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) on Oct. 15 in Istanbul.

The show, which describes Picasso's emotional world with music and costumes reflecting Spanish folklore, will be staged for the first time in Türkiye.

A painting by Irish-born British artist Francis Bacon of fellow U.K. painter Lucian Freud sold on June 29 for 43.3 million pounds ($52.5 million, 50.2 million euros), according to Sotheby's auction house.

The price is an auction record for a painting by Bacon sold in London and also for any single panel painting by the artist.

British rock legends The Rolling Stones on June 1 opened their European tour with a gig in Madrid to mark six decades since the band was formed.

The Sixty tour will include 14 concerts across Europe with the first taking place in the Wanda Stadium, home to Atletico Madrid football club.

To reach the only place in the world where cave paintings of prehistoric marine life have been found, archaeologists have to dive to the bottom of the Mediterranean off southern France.

Then they have to negotiate a 137-meter natural tunnel into the rock, passing through the mouth of the cave until they emerge into a huge cavern, much of it now submerged.

A Spanish court has sentenced a former top banker to 18 months in jail for trying to smuggle a Picasso painting deemed a national treasure out of the country on a sailing yacht.    

The court also fined ex-Bankinter head Jaime Botin 52.4 million euros ($58.4 million), according to the Madrid court ruling issued on January 14 which was made public on Jan. 16.    

The Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation will launch a series of jazz concerts on the premises of its recently opened modern art museum in Pangrati on October 18 with a tribute to the great Thelonious Monk by the George Kontrafouris Trio.

Invited to the Greek capital by Athens-based non-profit institution NEON, American artist and political activist Paul Chan  will present "Odysseus and the Bathers," comprising kinetic sculptural works, at the Cycladic Museum.
