DEM Party launches talks after meeting with Öcalan
The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has initiated a series of high-level talks in parliament following a rare meeting with Abdullah Öcalan, the jailed PKK leader serving life on a prison island off Istanbul.
The visit was the party's first in almost a decade. The pro-Kurdish DEM Party's predecessor, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), last met Öcalan in April 2015.

Over 3,000 terrorists 'neutralized' in 2024: Spokesperson
Turkish forces "neutralized" more than 3,000 terrorists over the past year as part of ongoing military operations, Defense Ministry spokesperson Zeki Aktürk announced on Jan. 2.
"Our struggle will continue uninterruptedly until the last terrorist is no longer a threat to our country," Aktürk told reporters during a press briefing in the capital Ankara.

Türkiye nabs 2 terror suspects over links to 2022 İstiklal bombing
Turkish security forces have apprehended two terror suspects over their alleged links to the deadly bombing on Istanbul's bustling İstiklal Street, orchestrated by the PKK/YPG terrorist organization two years ago.
The attack killed six people and left 99 others wounded on Nov. 13, 2022, in the Beyoğlu district.
New version of Hürkuş completes maiden flight
The updated version of Türkiye's Hürkuş training aircraft successfully completed its first flight on Dec. 30.
The flight conducted at Mürted air base in the capital Ankara followed ground testing. During the 20-minute journey, the aircraft reached an altitude of 6,500 feet and a speed of 140 knots, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) said in a statement on X.
