More than 12,500 inspections have been conducted on beach concessions for violations of concession terms, 2,500 in the last week alone. Authorities have shut down 36 businesses, 14 in the past week.

Violations, usually involving exceeding the space conceded, can be reported using the MyCoast app.

Some 1,279 drivers committed traffic violations, intensified checks across the country by police found last week in a crackdown on dangerous driving.

Police said that 345 drivers were fined for running a red light and 479 were penalized for illegal overtaking. Another 473 did not have proper insurance coverage for their vehicles.

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue's inspection squads identified violations in 70 percent of the checks they performed at popular tourism destinations over the long weekend a week ago.

They included tills rigged to erase each day's turnover, and even a store without a till at all.
