North Korea launched a series of short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea early Tuesday morning, an act confirmed by military sources in South Korea and Japan just hours before the United States began its presidential elections.

South Korea, the United States and Japan on Tuesday activated a system to share real-time data on North Korean missile launches, Seoul's defence ministry said, as the three countries seek to bolster security cooperation against the nuclear-armed North.

North Korea has fired a long-range ballistic missile, the South Korean military said Wednesday, days after Pyongyang threatened to down US spy planes that violated its airspace.
