Wildfire breaks out on Andros
A wildfire broke out shortly after noon on the island of Andros in the Strapouries area and residents have been urged to evacuate the area.
A team of six firefighters with two tenders, assisted by two aircraft and two helicopters, are attending the scene.
The fire service said a fire that broke out earlier on Salamina is now partially under control.

Greek Navy to switch frigates in Red Sea
After a three-month deployment to the Red Sea as part of the EU's Aspides naval mission to protect commercial ships from attacks by Houthi forces in Yemen, the Greek frigate Hydra is expected to pass through the Suez Canal on Monday.
During its mission, the frigate downed a drone and forced three other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to change course under fire.

Hydra frigate joins EU’s Aspides operation
The Hydra frigate of the Hellenic Navy set sail on Monday night from Salamina to the Naval Station of Crete in Souda from where it will head to the Red Sea, in the framework of the Aspides (Shield) operation of the European Union to protect safe navigation to and from the Suez Canal.

Lighthouses open to public
Twenty-nine stone lighthouses around the country will open to the public for a few hours on Saturday as part of World Lighthouse Day, celebrated every year since 2003 on the third Sunday in August.

Water pipe that will link Aegina, Athens vandalized
The company undertaking the project to link the Saronic island of Aegina to the network of the Athens Water Company (EYDAP) has filed a lawsuit against the Port Authority of Salamina, off Piraeus, after pipes that were supposed to be used to build the 14-kilometer pipeline were damaged by unknown assailants.

Saronic Gulf oil spill largely contained, says ministry
In a statement on Wednesday, the Shipping Ministry said that the marine pollution caused by an oil spill from a tanker that sank off the coast of Salamina last month has been largely contained.
According to the statement, issued after a session of the coordinating committee appointed to oversee the cleanup, there is no more "surface pollution" in the area of Salamina.
