Snow Blanket Hampers Bulgaria: Closed Passes and Transport Disruptions

Heavy snowfall and rain in several areas of Bulgaria over the past few days have resulted in significant disruptions, causing road closures and traffic problems. Authorities mobilized hundreds of snow-clearing vehicles to address the challenges posed by the wintry conditions.

Prevala Pass Re-opened to Traffic

District governor of Smolyan, Nedyalko Slavov, cancelled the partial state of emergency for the Prevala pass (South Bulgaria), the district press office said on 30th of January. Traffic through the pass has been restored, but snow chains are obligatory required. The district crisis management unit monitors the condition of the dams and rivers in the area.

Situation in Smolyan Gets Back to Normal after the Heavy Snow

The state of emergency in Smolyan is still in place on 28th of January, but it is expected to be cancelled today after the situation in the region gradually gets back to normal, reports BNT. 

Traffic is one-way through Pamporovo ski resort. Cars are not allowed from Progled to the resort. Traffic from the town is redirected through the Rozhen pass.

Snow Chains are Compulsory for Driving through Prevala and Pamporovo Passes

Meteorologists warn of downpours in most parts of Bulgaria. Code orange for heavy rains and black ice is in force for 5 districts in South-West Bulgaria on 25th of January, reports BNT.

Bulgarian Road Agency: No Restrictions on Main Roads in the Country

There are no restrictions in place for the first-class roads and motorways in the country, Galin Mihalev, Road Infrastructure Agency, told Focus Radio about road traffic this morning. Nearly 300 machines were sent to treat the national roads last night. All passes are open, except Troyan and Prevala.

Yellow and Orange Code for Dangerous Weather in 24 Districts in Bulgaria

In 24 districts in the country, a yellow or orange code is declared for a dangerous weather. The warning code is orange for five districts in Northern Bulgaria and yellow for others 19. Because of the snowfall the roads and especially the high mountain passes are risky, reported BNT.
