Bulgaria's Economy Plummets: Ranked Among World's Least Competitive
Bulgaria ranks near the bottom in global competitiveness, placing 58th out of 67 countries in the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2024 by the Swiss business school IMD, as reported by the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD). This ranking indicates no progress since 2021 and a decline of 10 positions since 2020 and 20 since 2009.
Aksa Enerji to build gas plant in Kazakhstan
Turkish energy company Aksa Enerji has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the Shymkent Governorship in Kazakhstan to establish a natural gas combined cycle power plant.
The installed capacity of the gas power plant will be 500MW, Aksa said in a filing with Borsa İstanbul.

Athens blocking EU-Tirana defense pact
Athens is standing in the way of an EU-Tirana Defense and Security Agreement over the Albanian government's intransigent stance regarding the incarceration of the ethnic Greek mayor of Himare, Fredi Beleri.

Over 20 nations call for tripling of nuclear energy
More than 20 countries called for the tripling of world nuclear energy capacity at UN climate talks on Saturday as part of efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
A declaration endorsed by nations ranging from the United States to Ghana to Japan and several European countries said nuclear energy plays a "key role" in reaching the goal of carbon neutrality.
