Greece begins two-year term at UN Security Council

Greece's two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) officially begins on Thursday, highlighted by a welcoming ceremony at the UN headquarters.

Greece's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris, will join his counterparts from Denmark, Somalia, Pakistan and Panama in the event.

South Korean police on Thursday raided the offices of Jeju Air and the operator of Muan International Airport as part of the probe into the fatal crash of a Boeing 737-800 plane that killed 179 people.

A South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for impeached, suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol, investigators said Tuesday, over his short-lived bid to impose martial law on the country.

Greece expresses condolences for deadly plane crash in South Korea

"Profoundly saddened by the tragic incident involving the plane crash in South Korea. We extend our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time," stated the announcement. 

Shortly after 9 a.m. local time (2 a.m. Greek time) on Sunday, a Jeju Airlines plane attempted to land at Muan Airport in South Korea, arriving from Bangkok.

South Korea’s Worst Air Disaster: Jeju Air Flight Crashes on Landing

A Jeju Air flight traveling from Bangkok, Thailand, to South Korea crashed during landing at Muan International Airport on Sunday morning, resulting in what is feared to be one of the deadliest aviation disasters in the country's history. The aircraft, carrying 181 people, crashed while attempting a second landing, with officials confirming that 179 of those onboard are presumed dead.
