Greece's two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) officially begins on Thursday, highlighted by a welcoming ceremony at the UN headquarters.

A South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for impeached, suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol, investigators said Tuesday, over his short-lived bid to impose martial law on the country.

The Jeju Air aircraft that crashed at the airport in the city of Muan, South Korea, appears to have crashed, carrying 179 passengers and crew members to their deaths.

2024 was already a dispiriting year for Boeing, the American aviation giant. But when one of the company's jets crash-landed in South Korea on Dec. 29, killing all but two of the 181 people on board, it brought to a close an especially unfortunate year for Boeing.

"Profoundly saddened by the tragic incident involving the plane crash in South Korea. We extend our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time," stated the announcement. 

Shortly after 9 a.m. local time (2 a.m. Greek time) on Sunday, a Jeju Airlines plane attempted to land at Muan Airport in South Korea, arriving from Bangkok.

A Jeju Air flight traveling from Bangkok, Thailand, to South Korea crashed during landing at Muan International Airport on Sunday morning, resulting in what is feared to be one of the deadliest aviation disasters in the country's history. The aircraft, carrying 181 people, crashed while attempting a second landing, with officials confirming that 179 of those onboard are presumed dead.

A wounded North Korean soldier, who had been captured by Ukrainian forces, succumbed to his injuries, according to the Yonhap news agency, citing a statement from South Korea’s intelligence agency.
