The prospects of the European economy were discussed by the participants in the panel "European Economy", coordinated by Tassos Anastasatos, Chief Economist of Eurobank and held at the 6th Delphi Economic Forum held under the auspices of of the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

It is now 25 years since George Soros and Robert Johnson* speculated against the pound,  costing £3.3 billion in losses, and forcing the UK out of the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) that paved the way for the euro currency.

According to Johnson this “tough love” was necessary!

In an opinion article by signed by J. Kyle Bass in Bloomberg titled “The IMF needs to stop torturing Greece”, the author, who is a chief investment officer for Haynman Capital Management with a stake in Greek banking shares, urges the IMF to ease up on its harsh demands from Greece and consider writing off part of what is owed to it by the embattled country.
