EU’s Civil Protection sending three water bombers to Greece 

The European Civil Protection Mechanism has mobilized three firefighting aircraft, two from Italy and one from Croatia, to assist Greek first responders as they battle a large wildfire that has been burning in the south of the country for three days.

The EU has also launched emergency satellite mapping via its Copernicus system to provide maps for the local authorities. 

European firefighters in Greece to prepare for climate change back home

Early in the morning at the Nea Makri fire station on the outskirts of Athens, dozens of firefighters gather in front of their fire trucks for the morning roll call. Look closely and you'll see that most of their uniforms are emblazoned with the word "Pompierii." This is the latest group of Romanian firefighters to visit the country as part of the EU Prepositioning Program.

EU mobilization to tackle Greek fires totals over 350 firefighters, 12 aircraft from 7 countries

Over 350 firefighters, 50 vehicles, and 12 aircraft have been mobilized by the European Commission, "helping to battle the flames across Greece," European Commission spokesperson for Budget and Human Resources, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Balazs Ujvari said in a statement uploaded on social media on Monday.

Looking after the four-legged survivors of Attica’s fires

A volunteer with Dog's Voice looks after a puppy rescued from this week's Attica wildfires. The non-governmental organization took in 444 cats and dogs and managed to reunite or rehome most of them, with 74 still in its care at an emergency shelter set up at a disused quarry in the Athens suburb of Galatsi, it said in an announcement on Friday.
