An Iraqi military base that houses U.S. forces was targeted by a rocket attack on Jan. 14, an Iraqi army officer said.

Al-Taji military airbase located 85 kilometers (some 53 miles) north of the capital Baghdad was targeted by at least two Katyusha rockets, an army captain told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity as he is not authorized to speak to media outlets.

Hundreds of Iraqi mourners tried to storm the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on Dec. 31, following deadly U.S. airstrikes this week that killed 25 fighters from an Iran-backed Shiite militia in Iraq.

An Iraqi judge on Aug. 29 cleared a German-Turkish woman of having ties to ISIL, a judicial source said, more than a year after she was detained.

At least 25 people were killed in a double suicide bombing in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Jan. 15, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing a local security official.

 Iraqi security forces are forcibly returning civilians from refugee camps to unsafe areas in the predominantly Sunni Anbar province, exposing them to death from booby-traps or acts of vigilantism, refugees and aid workers say, quoted by Reuters. 

Iraqi forces on Dec. 16 uncovered two mass graves in northern Iraq, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing a local Iraqi official.

An Iraqi military parade celebrating final victory over Islamic State is underway in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, an Iraqi military spokesman told Reuters on Sunday, Reuters reports.
