The petascale computing system will help greatly with Bulgaria's tech ambitions in the years to come.
Supercomputer Vega launched in Slovenia
Maribor – Supercomputer Vega was formally launched in Maribor on Tuesday, putting Slovenia on the global map of computer super powers. It is the first in a series of eight planned high-performance computing (HPC) centres in the EU.
Vega is a 6.9 petaflops supercomputer, which means it can do 6.9 million billion computing operations per second, and it cost EUR 17.2 million.

Supercomputer Vega delivered to Slovenia
Maribor – Vega, the biggest supercomputer in Slovenia and one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world, has been delivered to Maribor and will be launched at the Institute of Information Science (IZUM) in April. IZUM director Aleš Bošnjak said it will enable scientists to take part in major international research projects.

Europe Invests in Supercomputer System in Bulgaria
The European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking, which pools European resources to buy and deploy world-class supercomputers and technologies, announced on December 14 the signature of a contract worth 11.5 million euro for a new supercomputing system in Bulgaria.

A Supercomputer Center Will be Created in Sofia
A supercomputer center will be created in Sofia.
The city is one of the eight locations worldwide selected for the project. The other places in the world are Barcelona (Spain), Bologna (Italy), Kenyan (Finland), Minu (Portugal), Ostrava (Czech Republic), Bissen (Luxembourg) and Maribor (Slovenia), the European Commission quoted dnesvnik.bg.
