Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide

The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide on Monday asked the president of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, Graciela Gatti Santana, to review the 2014 early release of convicted Bosnian Croat war criminal Dario Kordic.

Two war victims' associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday urged the prime minister of the Croat- and Bosniak-dominated Federation entity, Nermin Niksic, to condemn statements made by the Federation's president Lidija Bradara and minister of culture and sport, Sanja Vlaisavljevic, claiming that they expressed support for convicted war criminals.

The Prosecution wrote that, between 2004 and 2022, it registered a total of 814 cases referred by the Prosecution of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, ICTY.

Members of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide and their supporters gathered on Tuesday in front of the Swedish embassy in Sarajevo to protest against the decision last month by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to award the Nobel Prize for literature to author Peter Handke, who took a pro-Serb stance during wartime.

The Council of Ministers, the executive branch of Bosnia and Herzegovina's state-level government, has been criticised for again failing on Tuesday evening to consider a revised national strategy to clear up the country's large backlog of war crimes cases.
