Toyota, Mazda announce tie-up over electric vehicles, US factory

Japanese auto giant Toyota and smaller rival Mazda said on Aug. 4 that they agreed a capital tie-up to focus on joint development of electric vehicles, while building a $1.6 billion factory in the United States which will create up to 4,000 jobs.

The move comes as the automotive industry is faced with a major shift towards greener transport and greater use of information technology.

BELGRADE - The government of Japan donated 150 eco-friendly cars worth around EUR 3.5 million in total to help boost the environmental protection and cost-cutting measures introduced by the Serbian government.

The keys to the cars were handed over to Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic on Monday by Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Masafumi Kuroki.

Greek Mazda representative files for bankruptcy

A decision by Mazda's Greek representative and official importer, Elma SA, to file for bankruptcy was expected to result in the loss of hundreds of jobs and see Mazda owners facing the possibility of being unable to locate spare parts for their vehicles and trucks.

The move was made by Elma on Monday following 27 years of local operations.
