Some of the many families of Ottoman origin now residing in South Africa are eager to receive Turkish citizenship years after applying.

Islamic State has reportedly confirmed that its leader Abu Bakr al-Bahgdadi is dead, the Al Sumaria TV channel reported on Tuesday, according to TASS.

Al Sumaria quoted "a source in Iraq’s Nineveh province," the Russian news agency said.

The hitherto elusive Baghdadi, who on June 29 proclaimed a "caliphate" straddling Syria and Iraq, made his appeal in a sermon delivered on Friday in the militant-held northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
