Experts warn about exponential spread of Delta, urge vaccination

Ljubljana – Exponential growth in coronavirus infections presages a new Covid-19 wave that could continue into autumn, said the head of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), Milan Krek. He and infectious disease specialist Mateja Logar warned about imported cases, especially in light of the highly-contagious Delta strain, calling for vaccination.

Days of Jožef Stefan kick off online

Ljubljana – Days of Jožef Stefan will kicked off online yesterday with Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) head Boštjan Zalar addressing the opening ceremony. Until Saturday several lectures and other events will be held to popularise science and honour the memory of the famous physicist that gave the name to Slovenia’s top research institute.

Movement restriction and ban on gatherings in coastal region from Saturday

Ljubljana – Any gatherings are banned in the coastal Obalno-Kraška region from Saturday and travel between this region and others is restricted to work- and health-related reasons, the government decreed at Thursday’s correspondence session. The current level of restrictions remains in force in the rest of the country.

Slovenia’s daily coronavirus count over 3,000 for first time

Ljubljana – A total of 3,354 coronavirus infections were confirmed in Slovenia on Tuesday from a combined 22,194 PCR and rapid antigen tests, the highest daily number of cases yet, as the positivity rate for PCR tests hit a record high, government data show. A further 31 Covid-19 patients lost their lives.
