Thousands of schoolchildren poured onto the streets of the Black township outside Johannesburg, protesting against the apartheid regime's demand that they be taught in Afrikaans - the "language of the oppressor," as they put it - instead of English.

COVID-19 in Bulgaria: 1629 New Cases, 52 Dead
1629 are the new cases of coronavirus in Bulgaria for the past 24 hours. More than 24,000 tests were performed, which makes 6.7% positive.
4,500 people are treated in the hospital, 378 of them are in the intensive care unit. 1268 were cured, 52 people died.
11,918 doses of vaccine were given during the last 24 hours. The total number of doses administered is now 2,391,930.

Turkey begins Phase 3 trials of homegrown COVID vaccine
Turkey began administering its national coronavirus vaccine candidate to volunteers on Aug. 25 in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri as part of Phase 3 studies.

Universities urge students to get jabbed ahead of academic year
A number of universities in Turkey are calling on and encouraging students to have their two doses of vaccines against COVID-19 before the new academic year starts.

COVID-19 in Bulgaria: 805 New Cases
805 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Bulgaria with 18,556 tests performed in the last 24 hours. This is shown by the data on the Unified Information Portal. The new cases are 31 people more than in the previous 24 hours.
There are currently 1,207 people in hospital with COVID-19, with 101 in the intensive care unit.

South Africa steps up virus curbs against third wave
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on May 30 that South Africa would re-impose stricter measures against Covid-19 fearing the whole country will soon face a third wave of the pandemic.
Four of the nation's nine provinces, including Gauteng which boasts Johannesburg and Pretoria and has the biggest population, are already battling a third wave of infections, Ramaphosa said.
Belgium Suspends Vaccinations with J&J Following One Fatality
