Berlin Warns German Tourists About Vacationing in Turkey

Germany's Foreign Ministry has warned its citizens thinking of traveling to Turkey that they risk arbitrary detention even in Turkish resort areas, Voice of America reports. The hardening of the travel advisory follows detentions of Germans by Turkish authorities that are considered by Berlin to have been politically motivated.

Germany granted access to arrested journalist Deniz Yücel in Turkey

Germany's Foreign Ministry has said it has been granted consular access to arrested German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel.

Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said on May 17 that consular officials will visit Die Welt reporter Yücel in Istanbul's Silivri prison on May 18 for a second time since his arrest earlier this year.

EU shouldn't freeze accession talks with Turkey: Germany

The European Union should not freeze Turkey's negotiations to join the bloc, Germany's Foreign Ministry said on Nov. 25, a day after members of the European Parliament voted in a non-binding motion in support of such a freeze.

"It is important that we keep talking," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Sawsan Chebli told a regular government news conference. 

Germany's Ambassador to Czech Republic 'to Head Bulgarian Mission'

Detlef Lingemann, the German Ambassador to the Czech Republic, is the successor to outgoing Matthias Hoepfner, who represented the country in Bulgaria, reports say.

The information came from the website Dnevnik.bg, which quoted Germany's Foreign Ministry as confirming his appointment.
