Türkiye has urged once again that the United States should cut its support to the YPG in the fight against ISIL, an issue the two allies are at odds with since 2015.

The elections to be held in northern Syria by the YPG have been postponed once again as a result of Ankara's steadfast reaction, the Turkish security sources have said.

Plans by U.S.-backed YPG to conduct local elections in northern Syria are "unacceptable" and a threat to Türkiye's national security, Defense Minister Yaşar Güler said on June 3.

Türkiye considers the move as a step toward the creation of a separate Kurdish entity across its borders.

President Joe Biden's Defense Department requested on May 28 over $500 million to aid groups, including the YPG/PKK, the U.S. is partnering with in Iraq and Syria to defeat Daesh/ISIL.
