The United Nations has officially designated July 11 as an annual day of remembrance for the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre. This decision came despite intense lobbying against the resolution by Serbia. German and Rwandan representatives successfully pushed the proposal through, which was approved by 84 member states, while 19 voted against and 68 abstained.

The U.N. General Assembly voted Thursday to establish an annual day of remembrance for the 1995 Srebrenica genocide, despite furious opposition from Bosnian Serbs and Serbia.

The UN General Assembly is set to discuss and vote on a draft resolution regarding the Srebrenica massacre. The proposed document aims to declare July 11 as an International Day of Remembrance for the Genocide that occurred there in 1995. This resolution condemns the denial of genocide and the glorification of war criminals.

NEW YORK - Serbian FM Marko Djuric said on Wednesday Serbia appealed with the utmost urgency to all UN member states to strongly oppose the passage of a draft Srebrenica resolution.

NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday in New York Belgrade had information about what countries would vote for a Srebrenica genocide resolution in the UN General Assembly on Thursday and that there would be "disappointing news" about the positions of some countries that had not been expected to stab Serbia in the back.

BELGRADE/JERUSALEM - Simon Wiesenthal Centre Director Efraim Zuroff said on Tuesday he hoped a UN Srebrenica genocide resolution would fail and noted that the UN General Assembly was the "worst place" to vote on the matter because it was a "political vote."

For the relatives of the Srebrenica massacre victims, forgiving feels impossible, nearly 30 years on.

But if Serbs in Bosnia and Belgrade stop denying and accept that the atrocity was an act of genocide, as states a draft UN resolution due to be put to the vote Thursday, that would enable finding peace, some survivors say.

BELGRADE - Serbian PM Milos Vucevic said on Monday Gabonese PM Raymond Ndonga Sima had informed him Gabon would not vote for a UN General Assembly resolution on Srebrenica.

Vucevic also thanked Gabon for its full support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia regarding Kosovo-Metohija.

NEW YORK - A UN General Assembly session on a draft resolution on Srebrenica has been scheduled for May 23, according to the UNGA website.

After two postponements, a debate on the draft was due to be held on Wednesday but has meanwhile been postponed again for another week.

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Monday he had hosted a lunch for ambassadors of African states to discuss a UN draft Srebrenica resolution and a renewal of Serbia's old friendships with African countries.
