The best-known among them is the Sejdic-Finci case, brought by Dervo Sejdic and Jakob Finci, members of Bosnia's Roma and Jewish communities who, under Bosnia's postwar constitution, are barred from running for parliament or the presidency given that they do not belong to any of the country's 'constituent peoples' - Croats, Bosniaks or Serbs.

A decade after the European Court of Human Rights first ruled that the Bosnian constitution violates the rights of minorities, Human Rights Watch, HRW, has said in a press release that Bosnia has done nothing to end second-class status for Jews, Roma, and other minorities.

The Council of Europe may introduce sanctions against Bosnia and Herzegovina for failing to comply with a European Court of Human Rights ruling, MIA said.

This is the case of Sejdic and Finzi.

Eight years after the European Court of Human Rights, ECHR ruled that the Bosnian authorities had discriminated against Dervo Sejdic and Jakov Finci by refusing to allow them to run for the Bosnian presidency because of their ethnicity, nothing has changed, said Sejdic.

A broad-reaching new project to bring Bosnia into line with European anti-discrimination norms launches on Wednesday.

"Various forms of discrimination remain one of the most serious human rights issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina," said a statement by the Council of Europe, which launched the project in partnership with the European Union.

The Supreme Court of Bosnia's Federation entity acquitted former Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina member Hajrudin Trle of war crimes.

The European Court of Human Rights, ECHR, on July 15 backed Azra Zornic in her suit against the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a case concerning people's rights to run for top posts in the country.

The new ruling puts Bosnia under renewed pressure to change the way it is governed since it echoes the 2009 ruling by the same court in the case of Sejdic and Finci.
