15 emergency alert messages issued already Friday as villages evacuated

The fire service has issued a spate of 112 emergency alert messages, with eight such messages being sent in less than two hours on Friday afternoon.

By 5.30 p.m., 15 emergency alert messages had been issued to residents in various parts of the country, including Attica; the Peloponnesian prefectures of Arcadia, Argolida, Achaea, and Messinia; as well as Larisa in Thessaly.

US-Greece agree to five-year renewal of MDCA defence accord with indefinite extension

Greece and the US are to proceed with a five-year extension of their Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement (MDCA), followed by an indefinite extension.

The indefinite extension will be terminated if one of the parties withdraws from the agreement, possibly one or two years earlier.
