Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has expressed his support for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon, in a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The prime minister underlined the need for de-escalation in order to prevent war from spreading throughout the region and endangering regional stability.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Wednesday that his country stands by Lebanon as he urged the international community to take steps against Israel, according to a statement.  

The Lebanese caretaker prime minister and the Cypriot president are calling on the European Union to provide financial support to help cash-strapped Lebanon stop migrants from reaching European shores.

Lebanon will construct a $122 million terminal at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport to be operated by a leading Irish airport company when it's completed in four years, officials said on March 20.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Jan. 1 that his country does not want a war between Russia and Ukraine and hopes the issue will be resolved peacefully.

Lebanese politicians scrambled to resolve a diplomatic spat with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations on Oct. 30, after comments by a Cabinet minister about the war in Yemen stoked their ire.

Armed clashes broke out in Beirut on Oct. 14 during a protest against the lead judge investigating last year's massive blast in the city's port, as tensions over the domestic probe boiled over.

Turkey welcomed on Sept. 11 an agreement on formation of a new Cabinet in Lebanon, ending a deadlock that lasted for over a year.

"We are very pleased that an agreement has been reached on the formation of a new Cabinet in Lebanon under the leadership of Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
