Oil and Gas Explorations at Vranino Halted, Await Court Ruling

At present no exploration works are being carried out at the Vranino field in northeastern Bulgaria, as the verdict of the Supreme Administrative Court (VAS) is awaited.
This was announced by the Minister of Environment and Water Ivelina Vasileva in a response to a question posed to her in Parliament on Friday, electronic daily Dnevnik reports.

The decision of the Environment Ministry on gas exploration in the area was met with strong civil discontent and protests.

Bulgaria Unlikely to See EU Environment Funds Unblocked before October

Payments under the "Environment" Operational Program will not be unblocked before October, according to Svetlana Zhekova, Bulgaria's caretaker Environment Minister.

Zhekova, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, informed Tuesday that Bulgarian authorities were in talks with the European Commission on the new programming period.
