Azerbaijan says 14 dead in military helicopter crash

Fourteen people died on Nov. 30 in an Azerbaijani military helicopter crash which went down in the east of the Caucasus country during a training flight, officials said.

"Fourteen people died and two more were wounded as a result of a state border service helicopter crash," the ex-Soviet republic's frontier guard said in a statement.

Turkish, Azerbaijani defense ministers discuss tension at Armenia border

Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar held a telephone conversation on Nov. 16 with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Zakir Hasanov, to discuss Azerbaijan-Armenia tension.

Hasanov informed Akar about recent tension at the Armenian border, stressing that Armenia's "provocation was prevented," according to a statement by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

Turkey, Azerbaijan begin joint military exercises

Turkish and Azeri armed forces May 12 started joint military exercises in the Azeri capital of Baku and Nakhchivan, the Azeri Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The exercises would continue until May 17 and were being held within the framework of a military cooperation agreement between Turkey and Azerbaijan, it said.
