Internet cafes running out of business amid soaring costs
The number of internet cafes, once popular venues, has decreased by 80 percent in total, with 360 closures witnessed in the last three months alone due to rising computer and rental costs and the widespread use of smartphones.
New regulation rules to save internet history for two years
Institutions providing free internet service will now set up a filter system that will prevent users from reaching "crime involving content" as well as enable users' internet history to be saved up to two years, according to a recent regulation by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) published in the Official Gazette on April 11, daily Habertürk has reported.
Internet cafe in western Turkey risks closure over hosting stray cats
A municipality in the western province of Bolu has cited "having stray cats inside" as justification for issuing a closure warning to a local Internet cafe, but its owner has vowed not to throw the cats out onto the street.
Bolu Municipality police officials stated that having cats inside the cafe was one of the reasons to warn the Internet cafe run by Olcay Özkök with closure.
Police bust illegal casino in central Athens
Fifteen people were arrested in an illegal casino (not pictured) in central Athens on Friday.
The Financial Police said that the owner of the establishment and three employees that were working as lookouts were among those taken into custody.
Officers confiscated 34 computers that were used for customers to play games of chance.
