Forbes magazine has once again celebrated the achievements of young Bulgarians with its annual "30 Under 30" selection. Now in its 12th year, the prestigious list highlights over 30 exceptional individuals under the age of 30, chosen from a pool of 150 nominations. The honorees were selected by an expert jury, recognizing their significant accomplishments across various fields.

Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova will take the stage as the host of the 37th European Film Awards on December 7, 2024, in Lucerne, Switzerland. The prestigious event will be held at the KKL Luzern, an architectural gem designed by Jean Nouvel, and will gather around 1,000 international guests to celebrate the achievements of European cinema.

By order of the Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Galin Tsokov, January 3, 2025, will be a non-school day for all schools across Bulgaria. This decision comes after the Ministry of Education and Science closely monitored the situation throughout the country, maintaining continuous communication with local mayors.

A tragic incident occurred at a school in Sofia where an 11-year-old girl passed away, BNT reported.

The child lost consciousness earlier this morning. The school nurse immediately contacted emergency services for assistance.

Following the announcement of the official election results in Bulgaria, it has become evident that 21 votes were missing for the "Greatness" party, preventing them from entering parliament. However, an investigation by the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) revealed that at least 28 votes originally meant for "Greatness" were reallocated to other parties.

A number of Bulgarians are currently stranded at Valencia Airport, according to Reni Mladenova, head of the "Progress" Association and the Bulgarian Sunday School "Vasil Levski" in Valencia, BNT reported. Due to flight cancellations at the airport, a group bound for Sofia has been unable to depart, with Mladenova reporting that no flights to Bulgaria are expected today or tomorrow.

Efforts to manage the smoldering fires at the old sludge depot near the Plovdiv village of Katunitsa are ongoing, as the area continues to experience a strong, suffocating odor. A mobile laboratory is monitoring the air quality, prompting the closure of a local kindergarten and school after waste from the treatment plant ignited.

In Plovdiv, a 16-year-old boy without a driver's license engaged in a high-speed pursuit with the police, reaching speeds of up to 170 km/h, reports BNT. The youth, reportedly intoxicated, was encouraged to drive by his father, who was also heavily intoxicated, after the two had attended a wedding.

An advisor to Bulgaria's Minister of the Interior, Nikolay Nikolov, announced that the BG-Alert notification system test was successful, with 98% of users receiving the alert. However, he noted that some users did not receive the message due to the need for specific phone settings during the test. Such settings would not be necessary in an actual emergency scenario.

Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev stated in Brussels that all institutions in Bulgaria are actively working to secure the release of Bulgarian sailors, though he acknowledged the situation is particularly complex and sensitive, BNT reports. He made these comments while attending a summit of EU leaders alongside the Gulf Cooperation Council.
