Prominent journalist Hasan Kılıç dies aged 79
Senior journalist Hasan Kılıç, a former employee of Hürriyet and the Turkish Journalism Association (TGC) member, has died at the age of 79 on Dec. 18.
Kılıç, who worked at Hürriyet for 34 years, died of a heart attack.

Mehmet Durakoğlu elected head of Istanbul Bar Association
Mehmet Durakoğlu, a candidate from the Principle Contemporary Lawyers Group (Önce İlke Çağdaş Avukatlar Grubu), was elected as the new head of the Istanbul Bar Association in late Oct. 23 after receiving more than 50 percent of the votes, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
Durakoğlu received 54.42 percent of the votes, sweeping to victory against the four other candidates.
Turkey appeals ECHR ruling on compulsory religion classes in schools
Turkey has appealed the European Court of Human Rights' (ECHR) ruling that said high school students must be allowed to opt out of religious education classes, which are currently compulsory.
