Ukraine's parliament on April 14 appointed pro-Western speaker Volodymyr Groysman as prime minister in a bid to end months of political gridlock and unlock vital aid to the war torn-state.
 

The annual Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit starts in Istanbul on Nov. 18 with the aim of building from Central Asia to Central Europe and the Levant, with the attendance of over 400 distinguished speakers from 40 countries. 

Ukraine said on Aug. 27 it had reached a crucial debt restructuring deal that will see lenders accept a 20-percent write-down and keep global markets open to the cash-strapped ex-Soviet state.

The United States signed on May 18 its second $1 billion loan guarantee deal for Ukraine aimed at helping the crisis-wracked country surmount a Russia-backed insurgency and rebuild its tattered economy.

US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said on Jan. 28 that Washington was ready to increase sanctions on Russia over its actions in war-torn Ukraine.
 
Lew's comments during a visit to Kyiv came one day after EU heads of state threatened to impose further financial measures against Moscow in response to the latest upsurge in violence in Ukraine's nine-month war.
