The Greek scientific elite of artificial intelligence gathered north of the capital in the suburb of Agia Paraskevi on Monday to discuss how this emerging technology can be harnessed and the transformative changes it brings to everyday life and across scientific fields.

Is there a way to predict the quality of the wine from this year's grape harvest? Can we know what a court will decide months before its final ruling? Can we help prevent cardiovascular disease in the future? Or, even, can we predict the weather using historical meteorological data? Artificial intelligence is here to provide a positive answer to all these diverse questions.

As Greece enters the fourth phase of easing restrictions that were imposed in March to stem the spread of the new coronavirus, an eminent Greek professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Dimitris Bertsimas, has developed an epidemiological model that suggests Greece is unlikely to see a significant increase in Covid-19 cases over the summer. 

Athens University has sent data it believes show there was serious fraud at the institution over the last two years, with some administrative employees being paid thousands of euros in overtime on a regular basis.
