Movies by and about Iranian women took center stage at the Sundance film festival this weekend, as diaspora filmmakers reflected on female-led protests and the deadly challenges of censorship and resistance in their ancestral home.

Dissident Iranian film-maker Jafar Panahi arrested
Award-winning dissident Iranian film-maker Jafar Panahi was arrested Monday, the third director to be detained in less than a week, the Mehr news agency said.
Panahi, 62, has won a slew of awards at international festivals for films that have critiqued modern Iran, including the top prize in Berlin for "Taxi" in 2015, and best screenplay at Cannes for his film "Three Faces" in 2018.

The Sparkasse Leipzig Media Foundation has awarded Turkish journalist Nedim ?ener and Iranian director Jafar Panahi with the Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media 2015.
Subversives Get Together at Zagreb Festival
The eighth annual Subversive Festival started on Sunday in Zagreb under the banner "Spaces of Emancipation: Micropolitics and Revolts".
Combining film screenings, debates, round tables and interviews, the 14-day festival is running in cinemas and faculties in the capital.

Jafar Panahi's 'Taxi' wins Golden Bear at Berlin Film Festival (Photos)
Jafar Panahi, the Iranian dissident director who is banned from making films by the Iranian state has won this year's Berlinale Golden Bear for his film "Taxi."
In his film, that was described as a masterpiece by the critics, the Iranian director stars as a taxi driver engaging his passengers in dialogue as he drives them through the streets of Tehran.
