Greece calls on Albania to address election integrity concerns

Greek officials are pressing Albania to address concerns about the integrity of Sunday's local elections in the southwestern town of Himare.

Freddi Beleri, the town's previously elected mayor and a member of the ethnic Greek minority, was removed from office, convicted of vote-buying, and jailed. Both he and Greece have alleged that the case was politically motivated.

Voter turnout for the whole country as of 11:00 am is at 12.3%, Central Election Commission Spokesperson Rositsa Mateva said at a briefing Saturday at 11:30 am.

Bulgaria’s Interior Minister reported of Vote Buying from One Political Party to Another

"Vote-buying in the elections was reduced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to levels that did not substantially affect the results". This was stated by Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev before the National Radio. He summarized that 151 court proceedings were instituted for violation of the electoral legislation.
