Serbian gov’t to bring “Kosovo armed forces” issue to UN

BELGRADE - The Serbian government said at a meeting it held late on Friday that the intention of the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Kosovo to form “Kosovo armed forces” is destabilizing the situation in Kosovo-Metohija (KiM) and announced bringing the this issue to the United Nations (UN).

According to a release form the government’s media relations office, the intention of the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Kosovo to form the “Kosovo armed forces” is a gross violation of UN Resolution 1244 as only the KFOR international mission has been mandated to use force in Serbia’s southern province.

Such actions are destabilizing the situation in KiM, and are harmful to the process of normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, the release cited the government as saying.

The government said that the security situation in KiM has been worsened by threats and attacks made against members of Serbian nationality and by banning Serbian citizens from entering KiM.
