Ivanovic from prison: They will not break me
PRISTINA – Oliver Ivanovic, arrested leader of the Citizens’ Initiative ‘Freedom, Democracy, Justice’ (GI SDP) and candidate for mayor of north Kosovska Mitrovica, has sent an open letter to the people of that city and stressed that his enemies are hidden and powerful but they will not be able to break him.
In the open letter forwarded to the citizens of Mitrovica from the GI SDP office, Ivanovic said that there had been rigged accusations and false witnesses even before, and despite many people believing such times are now gone, that seems not to be the case.
He notes in the letter that it is possible that this will happen again in the future, but stresses that then all citizens of Mitrovica and others who find themselves in a situation similar to the one he is in will at least be able to count on the assistance of their legally and legitimately elected mayor.
Ivanovic also underscores that there has been enough of suffering and voices belief that citizens will recognize in him and the GI SDP a team that does not promise unrealistic things, but rather delivers on its promises.
An international judge ordered one month detention for Ivanovic following his arrest on January 27 on suspicion of involvement in alleged war crimes in 1999, post-war incidents in 2000, and in an aggravated murder.
Ivanovic is one of the candidates running for mayor in north Mitrovica in the elections taking place there on February 23.
