LDP proposes forming of reform council
BELGRADE - Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Ivan Andric said on Wednesday that LDP proposes formation of a reform council, which would serve as a government advisory body with the widest possible political support.
Andric told TV B92 that the austerity and fiscal consolidation measures proposed by the outgoing government are not enough to solve the country's economic issues, adding that this would require a social agreement on the direction of reform processes between as many political parties as possible.
Besides the participants in the social dialogue, he explained, the reform council would also include experts such as university representatives, and the body itself would remain above politics and have a permanent mandate so it would not be affected by changes in the government.
Speaking of the expected support to LDP's reform ideas, Andric noted that the only significant anti-reform parties in Serbia are the ones gathered around the Socialist Party of Serbia and the Democratic Party of Serbia.
When asked if LDP is vying for the role of a coalition partner in the new government and if the vote for LDP would in fact be a vote for the leader of the Serbian Progressive Party Aleksandar Vucic, Andric said that the talks regarding post-election cooperation with potential coalition partners would be based entirely on their programs.
