Poll: Serbia's Ruling Party Wins Majority in Early Elections

According to preliminary results of Sunday's early elections in Serbia, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of Aleksandar Vucic has won over 50% of the votes.

According to preliminary results published by the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID), as cited by B92, Alexandar Vucic's SNS wins 160 seats in in the country's 250-seat parliament.

CeSID predicts hat Ivica Dačić's Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) wins 15% of the vote and 50 seats in Parliament and that the Democratic Party (DS), the New Democratic Party (NDS), and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) - along with parties of national minorities – are expected to be the only ones to cross the five-percent threshold.

CeSID informs that the early unofficial results are based on a sufficient amount of processed information, adding that the SNS is certain to have absolute majority in Parliament.

Serbia held early elections and local elections in Belgrade and several other towns on Sunday.

A total of 6,765,998 Serbian citizens were eligible to vote at 8,262 polling stations from 07:00 CET to 20:00 CET on Sunday.

According to CeSID, turnout stood at 50.3% by 19:00 CET, down by 3.3% from the elections two years ago.
